The REAL reason for the elder and ms appointment change......

as seen in recent posts, beginning later this year appointments and deletions of elders and ms will only happen through the circuit overseer.

this means that individual congregations and elders have no say anymore.

if the gb want only certain people in or out, they tell the co and he makes it happen.

When the court says "Who appointed this child molester as elder?" the WT now will be able to say "Oh, it was that guy who's 70 years old and completely broke living in a trailer in the desert in New Mexico. That was HIS decision, not ours. "

ALSO

It will come in real handy with the new "donation" arrangement.

CO: "Brothers X, Y, and Z. . . . You don't want to turn over the hundreds of thousands of $$$$ in your cong. accts to the society?"

BROTHERS XYZ: "No."

CO: "Delete, delete, delete. Brothers, you are dismissed. .... Now, what do the rest of you have to say about turning over your cong. acct. to the society?"

I know of one instance of this in CA. The person had problems with pain and got a prescription for MJ lollipops to suck on, thus avoiding the mandate on smoking. So far as I know, the person is still in "good standing" but does not have any privileges (although they had none to start with - read: it's a woman)

i love the taste of wine, i'm not fussed with other drinks but just need to rein in it a bit.. going wine-free tonight and tomorrow, as i'm out socially.. i also need to shift a few pounds.. thank you, everyone..

Good topic, something I need to get a better handle on myself.

I know it's possible, because for the first half of my adult life, I had no problem with alcohol. An opened bottle of wine would go bad before I drank whole thing.

Then I became an elder.

Pretty quickly, my opened bottles of wine would never go bad - gone in a couple of days. Then it was a bottle a night. Then I bought bigger bottles!

After my breakdown and "stepping down", the pattern persisted. My nerves were shot and it was the only thing that helped at all. All the meds pretty much sucked.

Now I'm in a FAAAR better place: I know TTATT; I'm fading; saw a psychologist for almost 2 years; my wife supports me and is seeing TTATT for herself; I'm going to school. This is all great stuff! But I still know I still drink way more than I ought.

It isn't easy to slow down once you're in the habit, but all of the above suggestions seem reasonable.

within the last few hours, two separate posters, watchtower87 and pixel, independently posted news of a april 22nd, 2014 letter to the boe regarding a change in how elders are to be appointed and deleted:.

they are both from "the governing body of jehovah's witnesses" and not from "the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.".

Yes it is unique, but no, it is not the first time that letters with Governing Body letterhead have been distributed.

The last letter (I know of) that had GB letterhead was the one dissolving all book studies.

Not particularly.

When I went total vegetarian (essentially vegan, but I wore leather shoes and wool sweaters) years ago, I honestly think that too many soy products (which I believe is the chief component of TVP) did not make me feel well.

So, sure, TVP is a great ground beef correlate in chili and such, but I would limit your intake, esp. if you are male (there's a lot of estorogen in soy which I think was what was making me feel "weird").

I now eat everything, but I do see the benefits to a meatless, dairy-free diet - if it's done right.

The realist view is that we perceive objects as they really are. They are composed of matter, occupy space and have properties, such as size, shape, texture, smell, taste and colour, that are usually perceived correctly. Objects obey the laws of physics and retain all their properties whether or not there is anyone to observe them.

I would agree with this except for the "smell, taste and color" part. Objects do not have color or smell, but physical properties like size, shape, mass as well as the fact that they are made of certain chemicals, as well as being able to reflect only certain wavelengths of light and not others. Smell and taste are a construct of the mind related to chemicals; color is another construct of the mind related to wavelengths of light. Size, shape and texture exist whether a mind exists or not (as do wavelengths of light and chemicals).

What this means is that as (what I consider to be) a realist, all I could vouch for is seeing a roughly textured, black-and-white image of a rock being thrown at my head.

Fortunately, I rarely see this.

Any Suggestions on what to say if elders ask why you stopped going in FS?

i was curious what might be some good things to say if i am questioned by the elduurs about my decline in fs.

anything too honest may get me a jc (although that would be for the best in the end..) the co visit is this week so they may be getting more agressive than usual.
